Ruffled Feathers

Not the sharpest image of a hummingbird I've posted here, but I couldn't resist this juvenile rufous hummingbird perched on one of the flowers of our dogwood tree, bouncing in a stiff breeze in the increasingly cloudy light at 8:15 p.m.

S/he was clearly intent on keeping the arch-rival, an Anna's hummingbird, from enjoying an evening meal of the sugar solution in our nearby hummingbird feeder.

A brief moment of late sunshine caught the iridescent feathers at its throat, and if posture could speak, clearly this tiny bird meant business!

We've had a very full day, meeting Seattle-area friends for a long lunch downtown after our morning exercise at the Y and enjoying tea and dessert at our house with them afterward, catching up on each other's recent activities and future plans.

I'll catch up on yours this weekend!

P.S. Thanks so much for your lovely comments and stars for yesterday's blip!
