Decided to do something a bit different today and paint a school. The company my friend Robbie works for provides loads of volunteering opportunities so we signed up for this. One of the things that Mountbatten drills into you is to volunteer at least once whilst you're here, and I guess it works.

The school was up in Harlem so we got to see a new area which was good. We got there and there was a huge palaver as we were supposed to have been assigned to a school in the Bronx. The idea is more about spending time with the kids, who have it as part of their curriculum, than to just paint the school. As they had too many volunteers we didn't get individually assigned to a student which was disappointing, but we could spend time with them at lunch, when some of them got up and sang which was really nice.

Also, the woman who coordinated the volunteers was Matilda. As in, it was Mara Wilson, the actress who played Matilda. Steph and I were massively fan-girling. In the bottom pic she's the one on the left in the red. She still looks exactly the same!

The plan was to have a big girls night out this eve but Steph and I decided to bail as we were knackered. So we cooked steak and had peanut butter and jelly Ben & Jerry's instead. Win!
