Redressing the balance…
Most of the cats around here know Bob, our feisty little dog, and are aware that he’s all bark and little bite, so they no longer play the game when he noisily rushes at them, but just continue to sit there, languidly grooming, not sparing him a second glance. This leaves Bob flustered and perplexed and he’s forced to steal away, clearly perturbed – and I swear you can see the cats smirk at his retreating tail.
Today, however, this large ginger must have been daydreaming and missed Bob’s approach and so reacted with deeply gratifying panic when Bob virtually pounced on him. In micro-seconds the cat had scrambled up the tree and sat there, desperately trying to regain composure while Bob barked dementedly at the base. Eventually, it did dawn on Bob that the cat wasn’t coming down again any time soon and so, with a final yip, we continued on our way with the cat still ensconced in the tree, warily following us with his eyes.
Bob, the newly conquering hero, had a noticeable swagger to his step for the rest of our walk. I reckon that big ginger’d made his day!
