Remembering

The Toads have been on their travels in the campervan for a few days we stayed on a small campsite in a field on a farm in Staffordshire near Alrewas which is where the National Memorial Arboretum is situated

It covers 150 acres and has around 50,000 trees most dedicated to people from all walks of life as well as memorials to the armed forces.
We were particular interested in the Fepow (Far Eastern Prisoners of War) memorials as Mr T's dad Jack & my Uncle Albert were both imprisoned, my uncle died in captivity aged 25yrs.
They both worked on the infamous Burma railway and this memorial is a section of the original rail track.

The inscription reads -
"Section of the Burma/Thailand railway known as the Railway of Death built by the POW's between Sept 1942 & Oct 1943.
16,000 British, Australian, Dutch & American POW's died in it's construction"
