Brassed Moth

I went all out to try find an interesting bug macro today.

I shot an unusual fruit fly on the seedhead of Jack-go-to-bed-at-noon this morning but have been unable to identify it. :(

I captured a pair of mirids in a clinch and wasn't sure whether they were in combat or procreating.

I got a cinnabar moth caterpillar in his new bright orange and black striped suit contemplating his old one.

When I first saw this moth I thought it was a dead leaf. On closer inspection I could see that it was newly emerged and had still to pump fluid into its crumpled wings. Even so the bright metallic sheen on them was striking.

I think it is a burnished brass moth. Love the name. :) It lives on nettles, we've got plenty of those.
