Why Robert Burns in Stonehaven Aberdeenshire.

Today was a day’s holiday and still hoisting Karen’s Friend Jean before she flew back via Wick to Rae in Cathness.

So this morning before heading for Dyce Airport in the afternoon, we spent time Stonehaven shopping, window Shopping and at the beech for a visit to one of Stonehaven's fish and Chip Shops.

So why the above Picture of Robert Burns bust in Stonehaven, well William Burnes — the poet's father — was born in Dunnottar, near Stonehaven, in 1721 and became, like his own father, a gardener. He had to leave his native county in search of work and, after a period spent in Edinburgh, arrived in Ayrshire in 1750.

He began to build a cottage in Alloway in 1757, the year in which he married Agnes Brown.

It was there that their eldest child, Robert, was born on 25 January 1759.

Robert Burns spent his first seven years at Alloway, before moving to Mount Oliphant farm in 1766. In 1777, when he was 18, the family moved to Lochlea (or Lochlie) farm.

During these formative years Burns had to turn his hand to farm work, doing a man's work while still a boy. Overwork after rheumatic fever started the heart disease that eventually killed him.
