Rose 'Climbing Polka'

Today, here’s another enormous flower. These ruffled rose blossoms are 5 to 6 inches across. The buds are nearly orange but as the flower opens, it goes through several stages of apricot and salmon and finally fades to a pale pink. We have several of these lanky, not terribly healthy plants which don’t seem to be very immune from black spot here in the wet Pacific NW. It hasn’t been as fragrant as I expected but it does have as a faint spice scent in our cool spring and the repeat blooming into the summer is more fragrant. The generously sized roses certainly stand out on our large rose arbors. I’ve planted rambunctious rambling roses that help set off these beautiful flowers.
