Reelig Glen

Both the dogs really enjoyed their walk today. We went to the beautiful Reelig Glen after I had been to the Hospice. I was tired so this just suited me as I could sit on one of the picnic benches amongst the lovely ancient trees whilst they paddled in the stream. They made a new friend Archie who is a golden retriever/ terrier cross, in other words a retriever with short legs and a ferreting instinct! A great dog.

The Glen was owned by the Fraser family for over 500 years and they planted many of the trees in the early 1800's. The tallest tree in Britain standing at 64 metres is a Douglas Fir, which stands here in the Glen beside the Moniak Burn amongst a group of other tall Douglas Firs. The Glen was sold to the Forestry Commission in 1949 and they make a brilliant job of keeping it in its natural state whilst providing good paths and a bridge for the public. I have never seen moss and lichens like it, literally dripping from the trees.

I took loads of lovely photos of the stream and trees but this one of Bud summed up their mood today. HAPPY.

Apologies for the lack of comments yesterday, we had unexpected visitors.
