Sun dog

I used to think these were rare but actually they aren't, it's just that unless you know what they are you don't really register seeing them.

Sun dogs are caused when sunlight hits clouds made of ice crystals high up in the atmosphere. They are located to the left and/or the right of the sun, at the same elevation as the sun.
