The Evening Star

The old sign had fixed my attention with the sheep and
shepherd in the foreground and cottage behind with
the light burning in the window. On enquiry, this light
was a depiction of The Evening Star of the poem Michael
by William Wordsworth. The shepherd 's wife worked late
into the night at her spinning wheel under the light of an oil
lamp. Their cottage being set on a hill, the light could be seen
by other villagers miles down the valley beneath them and
became known as The Evening Star.
