Desperate Character

Album for this week, Kirsty MacColl's 1981 debut, Desperate Character; an interesting stand-alone milestone in her career (she didn't get round to recording a second album until 1989), it fizzes with rockabilly revival and Sixties-style pop songs, underpinned by wry and caustic lyrics which wouldn't make it anywhere near the average Katy Perry or Lady Gaga song. I've said it before, I'll say it again: pop music was lost for good on the day it chose Madonna as its cover girl above Kirsty.
