Beauty or beast?
Aegopodium podagraria, more commonly known as Ground Elder, is a pernicious weed when it gets into a herbaceous border and invades the roots of its better behaved neighbours. We spend a lot of time trying to eradicate it.
But growing and flowering at the edge of my 'lawn' up at the house, aka the wildflower meadow, I think it's quite a beauty, especially when lit up in the sun against a dark background.
It's said to have been introduced to England by the Romans as a food plant. In that case, it must be one of the answers to that classic question ' What have the Romans ever done for us'!
