Scottish Independence?

Today the Better Together campaign arrived in Stirling and I went along to hear Jim Murphy, Labour MP for Renfrewshire speak on a soapbox ( actually a crate) outside the Raploch Centre.

It's a long time since i have heard a politician resort to such basic grassroots campaigning.

Well, did it work? there was certainly a novelty element to it helped by one of the hottest days in Scotland this year.

Difficult to tell from the gathered crowd how they would vote. They were remarkably silent. No heckling. No aggressive questioning.

This question of Scottish independence divides us all.

Jim Murphy did point out that he was shocked to discover that after seven years in Government the Scottish Nationalist Party had not thought through even the most basic forms of self government . The pound would be illegal. Yet tthere was no alternative plan ready.

As for immigration, a very emotioanl issue at the best of times, Murphy pointed out that we have an ageing population in Scotland - and we need the immigrants to look after us in old age.

I will be voting no.
