The Pot Cupboard
Day 1 of our photographic workshop in Romania with Authentic Adventures. After an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Luton we checked in at 5.30 am for our 3 hour WizzAir flight to Cluj Napoca. We met one of our fellow participants walkingMarj while we were in the queue at the gate.
After a smooth flight we arrived at Cluj and were met by Hamish Scott-Brown, our workshop leader, and Smeranda, our lovely Romanian guide. After introductions to our fellow 6 participants we began the long drive to the Maramures region, stopping for lunch on the way.
We were staying in private accommodation in the small hamlet of Hoteni which was quite basic but comfortable. After unpacking, and a much needed shower, there was just enough time for a few shots in the garden before dinner. In the Maramures region the cooking pots and other utensils are stored, not in the kitchen cupboard, but on wooden hooks somewhere near the house. In the immediate area it is tradition to put a red pot at the top of the pole if the daughter of the house is ready for marriage.
