Happy Midwinter

Tomorrow marks midwinter in the southern hemisphere. It's the major celebration in the antarctic calendar as it means the days are getting longer or, for those further south than us, they can start looking forward to the return of the sun.

Greetings pictures have been sent between all the wintering bases on the continent and sub-Antarctic islands and most will be taking a week off to celebrate with food, drink, gifts and games.
