Food, Food, Glorious Food

I am often asked what I do in my retirement. (Blipping aside), I think I must spend a good bit of my time in the production, preparation and consumption of food. Although the allotment has a brief fallow period in which leeks become the staple, the summer is a period of rich harvest. There is nothing like the time when a vegetable is first cropped, and just now that seems to apply to so many.
Tonight's meal was a vegetable risotto. It contained onions, garlic, asparagus, peas and sugar snap peas and was served with roasted beetroot, carrot, courgette and spinach. That makes 8 different freshly picked vegetables and was followed by salad with our own lettuce and strawberries.
