Pedigree British Friesian Open Day ...

At Burley Road Farm.

I'm now sitting in Lou and James's garden with 9 others who have spent the day helping them run the open day. We've had a lovely dinner out here, eating up all the stuff left over from lunch!

James bought his herd from a chap in Chesire, so he and his partner are here. Lou's mum is here and Emma's boss + hubby ( poor Em, left at home to help dad milk at night and deal with her boss's stuff during the day ) and a couple from a neighbouring property.

The morning started with frantic preparation, setting up the refreshments in the yard for the arrivals and a buffet lunch in the scout hut.

Once everyone arrived there was a welcome speech explaining how Lou and James have taken the farm on and that in two years their yield is impressively good.

James gave a little talk and then everyone went into the field and mingled with the cows for about an hour and a half! The cows were quite bemused by it all, but people were very serious, consulting their brochures and following the pedigrees.

Lunch, more little speeches of thanks and a group photo rounded off the event. People had come from far afield for the event - the chairlady, who requested I send her the 200 photos that I took, came from up our way in the Midlands.

The highlight of my day was that Lou and I saddled up the horses and went for a ride! I rode the new boy, Moss, a 6 year old chestnut, who was a real sweetie. I'm in love!!!!
