Scarecrow Parade

The next village to us holds its annual flower festival and scarecrow parade this weekend so we went along to have a look. Last time we went was about four years ago; the church was full of excellent displays and all around the village there were some fantastic scarecrows. My favourite was a horse and jockey scarecrow in mid leap across a garden hedge! Today? Frankly, quite disappointing. Most of those who had done something had done it well (with the exception of the pillowcase on a broomhandle with an upturned bucket for a head and two paper diamonds for eyes), but we only counted about four scarecrows in the whole village and I'm sure there were nowhere near as many flower displays in the church. It's a shame when things don't get supported as I'm sure a lot of work will have gone in to the planning.
