Little Egret
Drove to Melton this afternoon for a walk along the River Deben and saw this Little Egret looking for a meal in the incoming tide.
The Little Egret is a scarce visitor to Gt Britain although numbers are increasing. They stand 22 inches (56cm) and weigh 500 grams. They are a small white heron, with black bill and legs and yellow feet. This one is in breeding plumage with a plume on the back of his head, breast and back. They feed on small fish, frogs, crustaceans and aquatic insects.
I noticed some Oystercatchers, Curlews and of course several Swans too, I will be back.
