Gilwell Funday

Today I spent the day down at Gilwell Park in Chingford. It was the annual Gilwell Funday, and we took some cubs down for the day. I think they all loved it, well the sleeping on the bus on the way home gives that away! We had beautiful weather, so I thought today I would go for a selfie in the sunshine. Forgot my sunglasses today, and I'm not quite sure how. I blame the early start!

I love this picture coz it shows many different aspects of scouting. There are my 2 group scarves, which show the Cub Pack that I help run, and the Scout Network that I am part of. You can also see my WSJ2015 Suffolk Contingent supporters badge, which I am proud to support as some very dear friends are going to the Jamboree in Japan next year. You can also see my cub centenary sticker, we got a whole year of fun planned for this one. You can see my Welsh Dragon lanyard which holds my whistle (well how else am I gonna be heard?) which my best friend brought me back from Wales while she was at uni. My handmade cobra weave paracord woggle is also there, and my Brownsea Island woggle, which I got when I went to Brownsea Island as a Scout over 10 years ago. Finally you can see the leather strings which my wood beads are attached to. Wood beads mark you as a fully trained qualified leader. And I'm proud to say I've had mine for well over a year now.

All in all I'm trying to show you that Scouting is a huge part of what I do. I live my life by the promise I first made 14 years ago when I was invested into a Scout Troop.

On my honour,
I promise,
That I will do my best,
To do my duty to God,
And to the Queen,
To help other people,
And to keep the Scout Law

Scouting may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love what I do and I wouldn't change it for the world.
