Understated
The shortest night, the latest sunrise, a chilly morning.
This place cures my wanderlust, albeit temporarily. In the far distance is Maria Island, the Tasman Peninsula, and Freycinet Peninsula. To the north east we could see the fingers of the Bridgewater Jerry morning fog reaching into the valleys, leaving hills like islands in a sea of white. In the far north clouds covered mountain ranges, while the Derwent River flowed through and out to the open sea in the south east.
3.9°C, but a 'feels like' temperature of -7.0°C, with wind gusts of 60km/h. The Tasmanians were easy to spot, with mismatched but tremendously warm clothing, flasks of tea, and stoic acceptance of the conditions. The visitors wear coordinated outfits, have a conspicuous tea deficiency and beat a hasty retreat to the car once the photos are taken.
Check it out in large, or even better, in real life.
