North/South divide

Having spent a short while on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border recently, and having had my dog owning friend come and stay with me down south, there is a clear difference between North and South.
Up North, you can pretty much take your dog into any pub and most shops.
Down South, a shop/pub thinks it's dog friendly if it supplies a ring outside to tie your dog to.

Down south, however, it's perfectly acceptable to take your pony to the pub..
