Card
I was at my parents the other day, when Mum suddenly announces that she has a card she has to give me, and disappears off to her office.
A card? Why am I getting a card? It's not my birthday, or any other occasion that I can think of.
She reappears with a card in an envelope. I open it.
Oh yes, all is now clear. She and Dad have just spent a weekend in their caravan.
Several years ago, Briony and I spent a week in the caravan having a study week - she was doing AS levels, and I was doing an OU course. It was halloween, and we got bored. We found a pack of halloween confetti in Woolworths, and spent an entire afternoon decorating the caravan. Every single cupboard door had these pink spiders and spiderwebs attached with cotton and sellotape, so that they would fall down as the cupboard door opened. They were put in the crockery (we weren't to know that Dad would get a drink of water in the dark, and drink half a dozen or so of them!), inside an umbrella, in the pages of books - I don't think that there was a single bit of caravan that didn't have some pink halloween confetti in it.
Inside my card is a single, small, pink spider.
They're still finding them!!
