The Cadogan Arms, Chelsea, London

A lovely pub on the King's Road. It was the Rose & Crown when it was built in the 1600s and became the Cadogan Arms when it was rebuilt in 1838.

William Cadogan was a Captain in Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army. His grandson William was made Baron Cadogan in 1718 by George I. William was also made Earl Cadogan, Baron Oakley and Viscount Caversham for some reason.

All the titles became extinct on William's death apart from one - the Earldom which was inherited by his brother Charles.

Charles married Elizabeth Sloane the heiress to the Sloane family fortune and thus made the Cadogan family very rich. They are now worth £2Bn mostly through the Sloane land in Chelsea.

Charles Cadogan is the current Earl and his son, Edward, Viscount Chelsea, will be the 9th Earl on his father's death.
