St Bride's

Speedy visit to London in five hours for an Award interview - have applied to a few bursaries for some financial support for the MA next year. Unfortunately I don't think the interview went so well, kept repeating myself constantly and really blanked on a few fairly easy questions, but just got to keep hoping.

I ended up arriving about an hour and a half early and took inspiration from my Dad who always looks for a Church to sit in to pass time. Churches are always so interesting and I love photographing them. Ended up wandering into St Bride's Church which - ironically - is known as 'the journalist's church'. Due to its location on Fleet St it was frequented by Londoners involved in the media and printing industry, and it has a long history of remembering journalists killed in conflict areas, including during WWI and WWII, a tradition that it continues to uphold. The pews are spotted with plaques memorialising writers, journalists and photographers, the very first printer who died in the 16th century was buried in the church grounds, and there is also an altar for more recent losses to be remembered. At least I managed to stumble across this gem, both a beautiful church and a fascinating history.
