This is a DNA micro array or chip. On its surface are millions of nano beads in nano wells. This is the technology which enables quick and relatively cheap genome sequencing.
We saw this today on a visit to the Strathclyde Institute for Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, where current research into new antibiotics was explained to us. Really interesting and great to know that a Scottish university is on the forefront of such vital research.
