Millstone

In the past the Dean Village in Edinburgh was the centre of the milling of water mills and the remnants of the industry can still be seen today. It was also sometimes known as the "Water of Leith Village" and was a successful grain milling hamlet for more than 800 years. At one time there were no fewer than eleven working mills there, driven by the strong currents of the Water of Leith.

This image is of three millstones placed along the water of Leith to remind people of the areas history. As we walked along the path today I was reminded of a poem that I'd recently read.

FEAR is the millstone, and confidence is the grain,
that we, willingly, place under the millstone's weight.

What if we do? , what if we don't? , we'll nerver know
if we remain full of doubt and just look at the road.

A grain as small as a mustard seed is the first step,
cherish it, do not misplace it, have faith in yourself.

Confidence is the grain that we must take to the field,
which will grow into deeds and our disbelief will yield.
