My Life With Luna

Musk Beetle

I noticed this Musk Beetle on a thistle flower this afternoon. It is one of the longhorn beetles, so called because of their long antennae. The larvae develop in old timber, especially that of willows and other deciduous trees. The adults are active in the day, and spend most of their time at flowers. They are local and are mainly in southern Britain, but more widespread on the continent.
The beetle is 20-35mm body length, the head, thorax and wing cases are all a metallic green and it's food is nectar.
