Old-timers

The guest speaker at Rotary tonight was an 88 year old "old-timer", who was part of the group of early white settlers that came to this area. I did not get a photo of him, but the owner of this beautiful farm is of the same era. I pass this every time I go to town.
One interesting thing about the history of Alaska (white) is that some of the "pioneers" are still alive, and it is most fascinating to listen to their stories. When I came here in 1976, I bought my first property from Leon, one of the homesteaders of that early time, and we recently attended his 90th birthday party.

It is estimated that Alaska Native peoples have lived in what is now Alaska for approximately 10,000 years, so the long history is theirs, and most of it is unknown.
