Narrow-leaved Everlasting-pea
I spent the day leading a training session on identification of grasses at Castor Hanglands NNR. It was a really good session, with a dozen attendees ranging in expertise from novices to those with a lot of knowledge. We collected over 40 different species on a walk round the reserve, but we all got slightly diverted by the sight of the beautiful flowers of narrow-leaved eaverlasting-pea Lathyrus sylvestris, which is a very local species of ride edges in ancient woodlands, and was particularly abundant in one area. Heavy rain showers started just after lunch, but we were able to shelter in a cabin, and everyone stayed until the end, sorting and identifying the specimens we'd gathered in the morning.
