Kendal Fell
Today's the day ........................... to pick elderflowers
There's a fine, white powdery substance that isn't to be had for love nor money in the whole of Kendal - and it's all Mary's fault.
Back in the early spring, Mary Berry showed us in her television programme how to make elderflower cordial. It looked so easy - and immediately made everyone feel summery - so they all thought, ".......must remember to do that when the elders are in flower". And we all have.
The only trouble is that the recipe requires 50g of citric acid and so there's been a run on it at chemist shops countrywide. Even the wholesalers who supply the chemist shops have run out now. It's a bit like what Delia Smith did with real vanilla essence back in the 80s.
However, I'm pleased to tell you, that I had an inkling that this might happen - and I have already acquired my little box of citric acid. So tonight there will be a bit of Mary Berry magic going on in the kitchen ...........................
