Gare atelier
I know nothing more exciting than being in a painter's studio. It's not just the jumble of pots, paints, brushes, palettes, tins, Windolene and coffee cups. It's the climate of energy, purpose and invention that is thrilling.
Our old friend Faith O'Reilly has been painting large abstract canvases for decades now. She's a Royal Academician and was a friend and protégée of Stanley Spencer. Her life is filled with colour - the steps on their staircase, her magnificent portraits, their mentorship of artists, her love of the next opportunity. I love her work. Today we went to see a small printing press she's just bought - what will she do next?
Complicated, loving, talented and generous, she's not always easy but, by God, she's worth it.
A great morning. Actually, now I think of it, a great day.
PS. GlassRoad, she's also an amazing teacher.
