Old District

Yet another perfect day on holiday. T and I ambled down to the old district of Hamburg where some of the medieval buildings still stand along a canal near the Elbe River. You can smell the river from the street, and all the buildings are cheerful and crowded together like happy cousins.

We stopped for brunch at Ty Breizh. I didn't realize how close Breton is to Welsh until visiting this restaurant. Breton is like Cymraeg/Welsh married to Francais/French. Luckily I know both languages, so navigating the menu (in French, Breton, and German) was fun! In the end, T and I ended up speaking French, Breton, German, English, and Welsh all in the space of about 1 hour. We each ate a large spinach, egg, & cheese savoury crepe (can't remember the name for a savoury crepe) ... and then got a warm toffee sweet crepe for dessert. They also served AMAZING Breton cider (alcoholic of course - but sparkling like champagne).

Afterwards, we walked over to the famous "Miniatur Wunderland" exhibit which had the most mindboggling display of miniatures I've ever seen. They had miniature displays representing different countries and parts of Germany ... as well as the history of Germany. T and I spent a good 2 hours or more lost in the maze of miniature mountains, trains, castles, towns, etc. -- all wrought in exquisite detail.

We then stopped for ice cream afterwards and wandered around, taking pictures, doing the typical tourist things. I couldn't have been happier!
