The Return, Victoria Gateway, Southend-on-Sea

This public sculpture by Rene Julien was mysteriously customised a week ago by the addition of a skateboard. A pair of old Supras was subsequently put on the lady's feet and a can of energy drink in her hand (missing today).

Public response to the new look has been overwhelmingly positive and Southend Council say they will leave it the way it is (hurrah!)

It emerged yesterday that local artist Laura Keeble is responsible for the makeover. She talks eloquently about her work here. One of her aims was to make passers-by do a "double-take". Seems she succeeded.
