Spots and seizures - part 2
Well our morning got off to an interesting start.
Kanye had a seizure about 6.20 and it lasted for about 8 minutes. At the 6 minute mark we gave him midazolam ( special medicine hospitals use to stop seizures that is often given to patients to manage epilepsy at home) the only problem was Kanye stopped breathing for about a minute he then started coughing and spluttering and trying to catch a breath. I called the ambulance, by the time paramedics arrived he had started breathing again and his seizure had stopped.
Sometimes you get amazing paramedics who just understand everything without going into a massive speel about his epilepsy etc. They get it. I got them today. They were amazing. The lady came and started talking to Kanye and taking his obs. He instantly responded. The guy writing everything down was lovely and explained that coughing is good its the brains way of trying to save him and start his breathing again. There was another young guy in training to be a doctor who had just taken neurological exam, he made Marley a balloon man out of a glove. The lady helped Kanye up and he walked around with her while i gave the first guy more information. She fosters kids and absolutely loved Kanye she said 'oh i could take you home'.
They checked him again before leaving but thought best to let him rest rather than transport him to hospital.
They took his blood sugar and it was on the low side, his heart rate was high but they pointed out his heart was working hard to keep oxygen to the brain.
They gave me a care plan, if anything was to change - fever, vomiting, different behavior etc to call them again as it's possible he breathed in some of the meds. I had to keep regularly taking his temperature today but he's been fine, no distress signs, no change so I can only assume that's great! He's such a resilient boy!
Harper has chicken pox. I was right! Poor poppet woke with some spots he hasn't got a lot more during the day so I hope it stays that way, he's been a bit clingy today and a bit miserable, out of the three harper seems to be the one who is scratching the most, he's off his food too.
So another busy day in my house but I got this gorgeous pic of the sunset tonight.
