Phoenix!

Visited friends just outside York this afternoon. They live in a very old cottage with the date 1771 on the stonework. I spotted this very interesting plaque. It is a phoenix rising from the ashes .... the story goes that if your house was not protected by the rising phoenix then the firemen would not come to put out the flames if your house was on fire! Interesting!
