Hemerocallis 'Little Women"

This daylily reminds me of peach ice cream. Add the delicately ruffled edge and the burnt orange eye and it’s certainly a pretty sight in full bloom. Hybridized and introduced by Allen Wild in 1969, this variety is part of a mass of flowers in the parking field.

I had never grown daylilies until we moved to this property. Always gardening in a woodsy and shady situation, daylilies just didn’t thrive. Here, we have hundreds. They line the large parking lawn and the “frontier” beds which are being carved out of the blackberry patches and grassland. Plenty of sun and these are fortunately not fussy plants that can grow in less than favorable conditions. Cheerful and long blooming, I love their myriads of color combinations during the summer.
