Comfort
Got up not feeling terribly good and seemed to go downhill all day. Stella called and expressed her sympathy by stroking my hair with not much conversation between us.
Cc arrived from Hutton about 6pm and, after a discussion about how gloomy the news appeared to be about my surviving the night, at 8pm I let her call the doctor. By then Cc and I were not talking, just sitting holding hands. She slipped my cross round my neck and I held onto it for comfort. It’s photographed against my “comfort blanket” that I wrap up in on my reclining chair.
Time passed and I started to get angry that a doctor had still not arrived and by 9.30 had jerked myself out of a moribund state and was very annoyed. Cc was marvellous she just stayed cool and calmed me down. After another call, and another wait, the Cue-doc arrived at 10.30. He was very nice and after listening to the very lengthy history of my illness made a very detailed examination.
Just as he finished, Cc fortunately remembered seeing me continually acting as though I had a tight band across my abdomen. The Cue-doc asked if we had noticed any increase in symptoms during the past 7 to 10 days and when Cc and I agreed that we had he then placed one finger on my stomach and although I had been unaware of any particular tenderness I nearly went through the ceiling!
He then said he would send in his report on his findings and I would need to contact my G.P. as a matter urgency for an appointment to have tests made on my pancreas.
This was something entirely unexpected.
I have lived to tell the tale, that was a bit unexpected, too!
