Kinver Rock Houses
These rock houses, now National Trust property, were built into their sandstone environment which was formed approx. 250 million years ago. The first written record of inhabitants of these rock houses (and they are more than just caves) dates habitation there to 1777AD. Because sandstone is so soft it's relatively easy to burrow into the cliff face, and this is what has been done. They are really interesting to look around.
It is said that they keep a moderate indoor temperature, usually 14degC max in summer and 12degC in winter.
The location is Kinver, a village in South Staffordshire, UK, on a cool and wet summer's day.
