The Long Journey South

This is what I see when I turn to look at what is happening in the backseat as Mr. Fun drives us toward southern California and I ride shotgun.

We are always careful to position the pooches so that Max (black) is not on the side of the car where the sun will be blasting through the window. Chloe (white) likes the sun so we put her on the opposite side from Max, and then Mitzi gets stuck in the middle.

It really doesn't matter though, because both the girls mostly snooze through the 4-hour journey. But Max, well, he does not ever seen to go to sleep during the journey even when we give him "calming" pills. He just wants to be in the front seat watching it all happen. Often as he sits behind me, he just pants and pants. So it is really a joy with the pills work their wonder and he relaxes and breaths quietly.

So today we left Cayucos, on California's Central Coast, at approximately 10:00 am and completed the journey to our home in the Inland Empire in just slightly over 4-hours. We stopped twice along the way. First we stopped in Morro Bay as we began the drive just to do a quick drive through McDonald's for an "Egg McMuffin" breakfast. Then several hours later we stopped for a potty break in Simi Valley (near Los Angeles) and stepped out of the car and melted right there in the parking lot. Good grief, the air is warm and dry here in southern California.

It has been a transition to be back in the warmer air. The TV weather person says that 100+ degree temperatures are due here in just a day or two. Once we get to Catalina Island, which is where we are going this Sunday for a week of Family Camp with our great-grandson Tristan, the hot weather will be quite nice as we spend 6 days right on the shoreline.

Well, this has been quite a day. After 13-nights gone, we arrived home to see that our grandson, Emerson, (who moved in with us on June 1 so he could watch over our place this summer) is taking good care of our place.
