Remembering
Since Sophie's great grandmother passed away last year she has been fascinated by churchyards and gravestones. We had a walk round the village church and through the beautiful little cemetery, reading some of the inscriptions as we passed them.
There were two that particularly interested her, the first one was a memorial stone to a stillborn baby who "was born sleeping", "Did she sleep for days and days and days and never wake up Granny. That was so sad Granny" the second was a grave that had a plaster teddy bear on it, it was the grave of a 3 year old little girl. This led to a long discussion about how a young child could die at such an early age. When we got back home she told her Mum that the little girls Mummy and Daddy had an "apple eye" for their little girl. The stone had engraved on it that the child was "the apple of my eye".
