The Wade Stone

It stands on the A9 dual carriageway southbound layby 70 now. It was placed here in 1729 and marked the point where General George Wade's Military Roads crossed. He was Commander-in-Chief of His Majesty's Forces, Castles, Forts and Barracks in North Britain and responsible for the Scottish road system of today. The roads were to enable the passage of soldiers to prevent any further Jacobite risings.
A remarkable undertaking!
