In November 1989, in the week when the wall would come down, I was in Berlin to write about Martin Metcalfe, who was recording at Hansa Studio with Goodbye Mr Mackenzie. And several years before that I was at university in Edinburgh with Paul Hullah. None of which feels quite as long ago as it probably sounds.
