Road trip day part one
Our road trip began today.
Started off with a great journey with Uber to te car rental place at LAX. Then a not so great 1 hr wait to get the car. But once we were on the road, it was a gorgeous day.
Got out to walk along the beach in East Malibu, decided to go for a wee paddle in the Pacific, got soaked by a rogue wave. Then went to the Paradise Cove Cafe for lunch which was great although I think we've had our fill of fried food for now.... And I was desperate to try to catch a photo of their chocolate cake dessert for 4... It was a wedge of chocolate cake about a foot high (i am not exaggerating) but alas I failed in my quest.
Moving on, we went to Ventura and bought some very tasty strawberries from a roadside stall next to vast strawberry fields. Then stumbled onto a big Latino market at the College car park. Bought Mexican mangoes and a handy phone holder for the car so we can use our phones as a sat nav.
After Ventura we headed along on the 1 and stopped several times at the various beaches for photo ops. Then arrived into Santa Barbara at about 5pm.
We LOVED Santa Barbara. What a gorgeous town. Indulged in some premium ice cream at McConnells. Nom. Then a smoothie from Pinkberry. Then a nice walk around, a short drive up to the Mission Santa Barbara and then back on the road just after 6pm.
Took the long scenic route and finally got to San Luis Obispo at about 8.15pm and checked into a fabulous studio flat.
Went for dinner at the super tasty Goshis and was once again defeated by US portions.
Now sitting in the swing chairs outside our room in the courtyard enjoying the cool Californian air.
Fabby day.
