A work in progress

An abortive trip to the city centre today (class cancelled) turned into an intriguing Blip opportunity. The building where I work in George Street was constructed of concrete and render by British Telecom many, many years ago and is not a pretty sight. With the super hi-tech building - the Technology and Innovation Centre of the University of Strathclyde nearing completion just across from it, there has obviously been a move to enhance the stark exterior of the Graham Hills Building (as it's now known).

The picture on the left shows one of the men responsible for executing the art work (wearing his harness) looking across at his handiwork from the newly created garden across the road. When I emerged from the building about 30 minutes later two men were at work on the lower level of the mural. It depicts a giant telescope, and above the dome a multicoloured milky way is planned. It should look spectacular, and gone forever will be the flat drabness that seemed to be an immutable feature of the building. The 3D effect of the dome on the flat expanse of wall is amazing.
