Meadowsweet

Filipendula ulmaria. The meadowsweet seems to have escaped our recent visit by the council strimmers by growing up tall, through the hedge. It has a lovely smell and was popular with the insects this evening.

Meadowsweet has a long history of being used by humans. Its name is derived from Mead Sweet - a clue to one use - and it used to be one of the herbs and flowers picked to strew on the floor of bedrooms, scenting the air.

There is a croft on Skye - with a website name 'thedancingdophin' - who market a whole range of creams and lotions made from meadowsweet harvested from their land. Look tempting!
