A New View of Old BH

This is a view of Old Broadcasting House which I hadn't seen before today. As it was so lovely outside at lunchtime I sat on the steps of All Souls Church in Langham Place, next door to BH, to eat my sandwiches and watch the world go by. Afterwards I walked through the church's circular portico to spend some time inside. It was empty apart from one old lady sitting quietly. I climbed the stairs up to the gallery and gazed out at Old BH through panes of glass which must surely date back to 1823, when this John Nash designed church was built, because the view was quite distorted through some of them.

The BBC broadcasts regularly from All Souls, and the last time I ventured inside the church was for a recording of the Radio 2 Choir Girl of the Year finals many years ago. This partnership has now extended to the architecture of the two buildings, because New Broadcasting House was designed to provide a dramatic backdrop behind the distinctive rocket-shaped witch's hat spire, which is particularly striking when lit up at night.
