Roasted Pelicans

We had quite a fire downtown Haarlem this afternoon. I heard the fire brigade and could enter the V&D warehouse roof before the street and shops were entirely locked off.

We have many monumental buildings in Haarlem, but this one - men's society Trou moet Blycken - is certainly one of the nicest.

Thank God it looks like the monumental pelican facade has been saved, but the roof is entirely burned away. Here's the building in happier days.
