Limits

People on the camino travel at different speeds. Some are confined by time and others just let the day take them where they want to go. Regardless, having just completed my 15th day, but somehow through y 20th stage, the only thing that truly dictates your speed is how your body reacts to the everyday challenges. Go too far, a blister will pop up or an ache will return. The downside of slowing down? Sitting and talking to different people? Finding the balance has been a challenge for me (shocking, I know.) I want to press on, but I should rest more. Siestas count, but there can be rest while walking. As I entered Leon today, I had a friend well ahead and one behind me. My steps were slow and heavy. I didn't know how far away the final destination was and I didn't feel I could press on. So, I stopped. I did. A taxi was sitting on the corner and I got in. Cheating? I don't think so- it felt like the right thing to do. I drove past the normal 5 euro pilgrims' hostel and went to a hotel. My body and mind will rest well tonight. And my friends? Well, we all just enjoyed a drink on the patio.
