Bargain Book

Had Library duty which wasn't too bad as an ex local came in and was very interested in what we were doing. This is a page from one of the Bargain Books. The miners made a bargain with the mine manager as to where they would mine and for how much rather than being paid for their time. We still have these books and are a great record of miners names. There are even some women who made bargains and their brothers or sons would do the work.
